Juni 2007. Ostseebad Heiligendamm. Der größte Polizeieinsatz in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik. Über 17.000 PolizistInnen, selbst die Bundeswehr, „sichern“ das rituelle Gipfeltreffen der „mächtigsten Frau und Männer der Welt“, den sogenannten „Weltwirtschaftsgipfel“. Trotzdem gelingt es circa 12.000 GlobalisierungskritikerInnen immer wieder, die wichtigsten Zufahrtsstraßen zum hermetisch mit Zaun und Stacheldraht abgeriegelten Tagungsort zu blockieren. Wichtiger noch, sie können ihre Kritik am gegenwärtigen Weltwirtschaftssytem und Ihre Alternativen öffentlich machen, obwohl zunächst das „Chaos von Rostock“, Politikerrufe nach Gummigeschossen und GSG 9 gegen die „Steinewerfer von Rostock“ die Schlagzeilen beherrschen.
Der Dokumentarfilm „neueWUT III – Das war der Gipfel!“ kann und will die Frage nach der Rolle staatlicher Undercover-Agenten bei den Protesten in Heiligendamm nicht beantworten. Auch nicht die vielen Fragen nach Verhalten und Rolle des sogenannten „schwarzen Blocks“. Aber er will die Bedeutung dieser Fragen aufzeigen. Vor allem will der Film eine Chronik der laufenden Ereignisse liefern, das Geschehen während „der Tage von Rostock und Heiligendamm“ nachzeichnen. Dazu gehören das Vorgehen der Sicherheitskräfte und der DemonstrantInnen ebenso wie die vielen Aktionen und Veranstaltungen, in denen die Auswirkungen von Globalisierung und weltweiter Privatisierung auf die Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen der Menschen im Mittelpunkt stehen.
„neueWUT III – Das war der Gipfel!“ setzt die mit „neueWUT“ (2005) und „Kick it like Frankreich – Der Aufstand der Studenten“ (2006) begonnene Langzeitbeobachtung über soziale Proteste in Deutschland fort.

These are strange times indeed. While they continue to command so much attention in the mainstream media, the 'battles' between old and new modes of distribution, between the pirate and the institution of copyright, seem to many of us already lost and won. We know who the victors are. Why then say any more?
Because waves of repression continue to come: lawsuits are still levied against innocent people; arrests are still made on flimsy pretexts, in order to terrify and confuse; harsh laws are still enacted against filesharing, taking their place in the gradual erosion of our privacy and the bolstering of the surveillance state. All of this is intended to destroy or delay inexorable changes in what it means to create and exchange our creations. If STEAL THIS FILM II proves at all useful in bringing new people into the leagues of those now prepared to think 'after intellectual property', think creatively about the future of distribution, production and creativity, we have achieved our main goal.
