Der Film beleuchtet die Folgen der Palmöl-Monokulturen in Indonesien - Vertreibung von KleinbäuerInnen und indigenen UrwaldbewohnerInnen, Freisetzung von Treibhausgasen und Zerstörung der Biodiversivität. Er benennt indonesische Grossunternehmen, aber auch ihre europäischen Partner und Kunden als Verantwortliche und benennt die globale Nachfrage nach Pflanzenöl als Lebensmittel, aber vor allem auch Energierohstoff als Auslöser der Entwicklung. Auch der lokale Widerstand gegen die Machenschaften der Palmölkonzerne wird gezeigt, jedoch klar gemacht, dass die lokalen Initiativen ohne globale Solidarität wenig Chancen haben.

This film highlights the effects of palm oil monoculture in Indonesia such as the displacement of local farmers and indigenous groups, the emission of greenhouse gases and the destruction of biodiversity. Pointing a finger at large Indonesian corporations and their European partners and clients, as well as the rising global demand for vegetable oil – used for food and especially to produce biofuel – the film underlines how local initiatives against palm oil corporations will have little chance without global solidarity.
